Africoast is Going Green

“The sponsor Perrci/ NMMU had an objective to actively engage business in Port Elizabeth with regard to being more environmentally progressive.

“Internally” Afri-Coast Engineers strove to stop using chemical cleaners in the offices, set in place water collection vessels for conservation and use in and around the office, sourced green suppliers, started a recycling drive for paper, plastics and bottles and found an appropriate donor for hardware no longer needed. A number of training and staff awareness methods were used including newsletters and staff gatherings to introduce and promote staff talking and idea sharing of life continuum through environmental conservation.

“Externally” the company has diversified its focus from civil and electrical projects onto projects that have positive environmental impacts such as renewable energy and alternative energy resources, improving the current methods of engineering and researching better methods of construction. At present the company is involved with some 5 such projects, some commissioned and others in planning or Environmental Impact Assessment stages.

Africoast Engineers is committed to environmental awareness for all sectors and strives for new and improved ways of assisting with change in the engineering sector and through educating themselves and those they deal with by being up to date with products used and projects undertaken that do no harm and are sustainable.”
