ACE performed a diagnostic study and report on the reinforced concrete structures of the 27 year old Fish Water Flats Water Reclamation Works (120 Ml/day) in 1998. The works is situated within 300m from the Indian Ocean and concrete has high chloride levels with resulting structural corrosion and concrete spalling.
ACE designed and specified a remedial system and a rehabilitation contract for repairs to the three aerator tanks (R 4,0 million) to be performed over two years has recently (2001) been awarded.
Rehabillitation to other structures such as the settling tanks and administration building will follow under a second phase contract.
